His breakup album, very plainly expressed in the music… bursts of chaos like frustration, a long outro gradually consumed by distortion like anguish… It’s cathartically raw with rough edges deliberately left in, but at the heart of it of course he’s always the consummate pop craftsman. Here’s “Bad Law”, perhaps the most aggressive use of major 7th chords ever.
