Gray Days and Gold October 2023

Hello, friends. Gray Days and Gold returns with another hour of musical allsorts, highlighting some of the best contemporary artists you’re unlikely to hear on the radio—plus a little tribute to the late Kirsty MacColl, who’d have celebrated her 64th birthday this month. No ads, no login or subscription required—just press play and enjoy.

You can listen to this episode via the embedded player just below or on the Mixcloud website, via the Mixcloud mobile app, on your Sonos system, etc. (If you’re reading via an email digest in which the audio player isn’t embedded, please click the link below.)

There’s also a more barebones iteration of this episode’s playlist (minus my commentary, as well as tracks that are missing from streaming libraries) on Spotify and Apple Music.

If you like what you hear, please support the artists. You’ll find buy links to the tracks in the bulleted list below.

Gray Days and Gold is on Discord

If you’re a fan of Gray Days and Gold or a musician who’s been featured on the show and might like to connect with other like-minded artists, I’ve created a Discord server as a community space.

Hooray, another thing to log into, right? I’m not disappearing from social, but I certainly don’t participate as much as I’d like because of frustrations with the ads, algorithms, and signal-to-noise ratio. There have been instances—a touring artist who contacted me looking for opening acts, a listener who’s weary of social but wants to talk music, the fact that many other online music-discovery fora I’ve tried are filled with stuff that’s not relevant to my tastes—that made me think it’s time to foster easier connection among those with similar interests. Click here to check it out.

As always, thanks for listening. If you have questions, suggestions, etc. please feel free to contact me or join me on Discord. And if you’d like to receive these posts via email, sign up below.
