Favorite Albums of 2014: Poor People Are Revolting, by The Gotobeds
Well-schooled punks (i.e. you can tell they have good record collections) from Pittsburgh, The Gotobeds debut album is all you could hope for: energetic, smartass and serious in equal measure, catchy, wiry/Wire-y, and terrific songs that had my head bopping instantly. Even the uncharacteristically long 10-minute closing track maintains an intense ferocity throughout and seems to rush by much more quickly. Here’s “New York’s Alright (If You Like Sex & Phones)” (a modern response to an old Fear track).
